There is one bedroom on the ground level, a cheerful room with a pyramid bunkset filled with with toys and games. A roll-away bed is tucked away in the closet. A full bath and laundry room are centrally located on this floor. The action-filled rec room is fully equipped with a flatscreen TV, foosball table, snack table with stools, wet bar with a sink , a Keurig, and mini-fridge, and two twin-size sleep sofas/sleep chairs. Doors open to the outdoor amenities including outdoor showers, fish cleaning table, gas grill, hot tub on an elevated platform and a sparkling oceanfront pool. A private beach walkway with dune-top deck leads to the sandy shoreline and rolling surf of the Atlantic.

Inviting bedrooms are arranged throughout the first floor. Each room has tasteful furnishings and decor, flatscreen TVs, cedar closets, and covered deck access. Each closet provides additional pillows and blankets to ensure your comfort. Bedroom options include three bedrooms with ocean views. There is a king bedroom with private bath and whirlpool tub and a queen bedroom with private bath. An oceanfront queen bedroom and a bedroom that is furnished with two twin beds both have access to a full hallway bathroom. The breezy covered deck has ocean views and a stair system leading down to the hot tub, pool, and private walkway to the dune top deck.

Updates for 2023: New flooring throughout the entire house (except for the bathrooms). New furniture throughout, including two new twin sleepsofas in the rec room, which replaced a futon. New refrigerator and double ovens in kitchen.

Community note: RVs and trailers of any kind are not allowed in Ocean Crest. Overnight parking in the oceanside community parking lot is strictly prohibited and towing is enforced. The Town of Duck has beach equipment policies to help keep visits to the shore enjoyable and safe.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
