The ground floor is dedicated to a large and cheerful suite equipped with two twin beds, one twin bunkset, a Smart TV, and a private bath. Laundry facilities on this level provide one full washer and dryer unit. Outdoors, guests can dive into a refreshing private pool or lounge poolside under crisp blue North Carolina skies. A rear pool gate leads to an inviting pathway that winds through the community and connects to the beach access. Upon your return, take advantage of the rinsing shower to wash away sand and salt water. A fish cleaning station is available to fishermen (and women) lucky enough to land a cobia, mackerel or flounder! And, as the sun sets, settle into the hot tub on the mid-level covered deck. It's the ideal retreat for rejuvenation while enjoying soothing coastal breezes.

This sun-filled great room provides two comfortable sofas, armchairs, and a beverage fridge arranged around a seasonal gas fireplace and mounted 65-inch Smart TV with Sonos Beam. Doors lead from the great room to an oversized deck with outdoor furniture to enjoy early morning coffee and evening cocktails, and steps lead up to a loft furnished with a table and chairs for lively card games. The dining area has a table that seats eight and provides direct access to a screened-in porch furnished for al fresco dining. A modern kitchen has granite countertops and provides cooks with a range/oven, full refrigerator with ice maker, microwave, dishwasher, crockpot, coffee maker with Keurig option, and offers bar seating for more casual dining. A half bath is centrally located for easy access. The top floor is completed with a distinguished king bedroom with a Smart TV that has a private balcony with ocean view and a private bath with dual sink vanity.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
