The lower level of this home offers many entertainment options, including a theater room and rec room. The theater room offers two custom wrap-around sofas where you can relax and watch that movie you've been wanting to see on the projection screen TV. The adjacent rec room features a pool table, as well as a 2nd kitchen with full-sized fridge, stove, dishwasher, ice maker, and surfboard bar.

You'll love the sound system, which allows you to enjoy music inside or out. Outdoor amenities include a private pool, hot tub, two outdoor showers, a covered poolside seating area, and a gas grill and griddle. The grill and griddle are connected to the propane for the house so you don't have to worry about running out of propane mid-meal prep. Additionally, the grill is cleaned and the grates are replaced each week prior to each guests arrival.

Step outside to enjoy al fresco dining on the screened porch, or climb the spiral staircase to savor scenic views from the rooftop deck, which offers uninterrupted vistas in all directions. The king on this level has private deck access, as well as a private bath with walk-in tile shower and double sinks.

Community note: The Town of Duck has beach equipment policies to help keep visits to the shore enjoyable and safe.

Updates for 2024: The kitchen cabinets and second floor private bath vanity painted a new color, new carpeting on the middle floor, new stainless steel refrigerator in rec room kitchen, and a refresh of the volleyball area in the front yard.

Updates for 2023: All new decks, new roof, pool surround replaced with concrete and artificial turf, new 8-person hot tub, new and improved poolside bar, ground floor rec room and theater flooring redone, all hardwood flooring refinished, fresh exterior paint (new color will be a shade of blue), fresh interior paint, new pyramid bunks and carpet in the ground level bunk room, volleyball/badminton area in front yard, new countertops, sinks, and fixtures in all kitchen and bathroom areas (except top floor half bath), new induction cooktop and refrigerator in kitchen, new outdoor furniture, new grill, and updated landscaping.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
