SEMI-OCEAN FRONT Salvo — Farrow Ct. — Family connections run deep at FAMILY TIES, a six-bedroom/four- and-one-half-bath home that brings extended families or multiple friend groups together for those lasting vacation memories. From sunrise to sunset — both of which put on daily showings that you can view from multiple decks — this home inspires you to appreciate the ties that bind.

The call of the waves lets you know the ocean beach is just steps away. But the home’s private pool is even closer, a calming setting with loungers, tiki bar with two constructed-in coolers, and an outdoor table. There’s both a gas and charcoal grille close by to appease a hungry crowd, a basketball goal to satisfy the restless and two outdoor showers for a convenient rinse-off. Inside, on the ground level, is a laundry room and a bunk room with two sets of bunk beds for the kids.

A flight of steps up reveals a master king bedroom with full bath. Climb the stairs to the second level and discover three more bedrooms: a master king suite, and a king with a balcony that shares a hallway bath with a queen. A deck on this level beckons with two hammock swings to while away a lazy afternoon and features a covered seven-person hot tub. The final bedroom, a master king featuring a huge walk-in double shower and private deck is located on the next level.

On the top level is a cavernous gathering place accented by vaulted ceilings and windows that fill the room with morning sun. The very roomy, well-equipped kitchen comfortably accommodates multiple cooks to whip up beach-favorite meals. Stir up some pancake batter in the stand mixer, throw it on the griddle, brew up your morning coffee and savor it at the eat-at counter, around the ten-seat dining table, at the picnic table on the deck or the café table on the screened in porch. Comfy furnishings in the great room offer a ideal place for family game nights or to watch one of the home’s seven TVs. For those looking for a peaceful space to read a book discovered on the home’s library shelves, head out to the deck and settle into one of the Adirondack chairs.

Dogs are family members, too, and FAMILY TIES welcomes two of them. The home also provides a beach provision enclosure to hold your beach day necessities. Tie this one down and book FAMILY TIES today.

New for 2024: New cargo lift. New gas grille. New beach provision enclosure. New swing set. New dual oven stove. Decking and railings on the top-level deck and front bedroom balconies replaced.

Awful Arthur's Oyster Bar

Welcome to the home of the happy oyster where for over 40 years the oyster has been our world. The Outer Banks only authentic oyster bar is the place to enjoy sensational fare from the sea washed down with your favorite brew or cocktail. We serve by the peck, pound, and dozen, raw or steamed to perfection. Kicked back casual, down to earth friendly staff, and reasonable prices make Awful Arthur’s Oyster Bar the all-time favorite of locals and travelers alike.

The idea wasn’t to set out and establish a new concept restaurant on the Outer Banks, but that’s exactly what Awful Arthur’s owner Jo Whitehead and her late husband, Jay, accomplished more than 35 years ago when they opened the area’s first authentic oyster bar.

Awful Arthur’s opened in May 1984 on the Outer Banks. “We embraced the concept of an authentic copper top bar with the idea of it being a major drawing card and it still is,” explains Whitehead. “I get oysters wherever they are local. We follow the warm waters.”

Just across from the ocean, in Kill Devil Hills, oyster season is year-round at Awful Arthur’s. Diners can take a seat at the copper-topped bar to observe the staff shucking oysters, served raw or steamed, along with shrimp, crab legs and clams all steamed to perfection.

It’s not just the raw bar that’s earned Awful Arthur’s both local and national recognition, including being named one of America’s greatest oyster bars by Coastal Living magazine. The restaurant is a seafood-lover’s paradise, offering the freshest catches available.
