Get your Turkey Day celebration off to a fun and fast-paced start with this annual event that is quickly becoming a highlight of the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Surfin' Turkey 5k and Puppy Drum Run is presented by the Hatteras Island Youth Education Fund (HIYEF), and is a great opportunity to support a favorite local cause while enjoying miles of fun in the heart of Hatteras village.
The event launches from the Hatteras Village Civic Center, and from here, visitors can embark on the Puppy Drum Fun Run, which starts at 9:00 a.m. and covers a brief ½ mile of terrain, or the Surfin’ Turkey 5K, which begins at 8:00 a.m. and which covers a scenic three-mile stretch of Hatteras village. Runners, joggers and walkers are all encouraged to attend and don their best turkey hats and other seasonally themed gear for the fun jaunt to the finish. On-Site Registration will be available during Packet Pickup at the Hatteras Village Civic Center, and the modestly priced sign-up fee includes goody bag, T-shirt, and post-race celebration with pancakes and Carolina Brewery beer (for racers 21 and older.) With lots of smiles and holiday spirit, the Surfin' Turkey 5k and Puppy Drum Run is quickly becoming a favorite way to launch a Thanksgiving holiday.
