Join the Outer Banks Brewing Station in a fun Independence Day weekend run that presents plenty of reason to celebrate. This adult 21 and over celebration starts with a refreshing brew before an easy-going, mile-long jog, walk or run around the heart of the Outer Banks in Kill Devil Hills.

Join us Friday, July 3rd, 2026 for the SUN Realty Freedom 5k/1 Mile - 7:30 AM and Little Sparkler 1/4 Mile Fun Run - 8:10 AM!

Visitors can keep the Independence Day celebration going strong with this special fireworks display in the heart of the central Outer Banks that’s sponsored by the Town of Kill Devil Hills, and which is held at the scenic Avalon Pier.

The Summer Track Series is a family-friendly community running event held throughout the summer at the First Flight High School track in Kill Devil Hills. Designed as an “all-comers” meet, the series welcomes participants of every age and ability level, from young children and first-time runners to competitive athletes and experienced racers. The informal, old-school format emphasizes fun, fitness, and community spirit while providing an opportunity for runners to test themselves in a variety of classic track events.

Now celebrating its 47th year, the Wright Kite Festival is a celebration of aviation that takes place where flight began – the Wright Brothers Memorial. Walk through the sprawling grounds of the museum and gain a little knowledge of the birthplace of aviation and then put this knowledge to the test outside with Kitty Hawk Kites. Large kites will be on display throughout the weekend, joining in the sky with the Wright Memorial!

First proclaimed on August 19, 1939, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, National Aviation Day is a celebration of Orville Wright’s birth date, and is a fun-filled event at the Wright Brothers National Memorial that visitors of all ages will enjoy.  

The Outer Banks Parade of Homes offers visitors a rare opportunity to step inside some of the most stunning homes on the OBX while exploring the latest trends in coastal architecture, interior design, landscaping, and custom homebuilding. Hosted by the Outer Banks Home Builders Association, the annual event showcases a collection of newly built and professionally designed homes located throughout the Outer Banks.
