The ground level features a recreation/media lounge with seating arranged around a flat screen TV, a regulation size pool table, table with four chairs and a wet bar with sink and refrigerator. Sliding glass doors lead to the oceanfront outdoor amenities. There are two bedrooms on this floor that share a full bath. One is furnished with a queen bed and the other is furnished with one twin bunk and one pyramid bunk.

Radiant sunlight, refreshing breezes and the lull of waves lapping against the shoreline create a multi-sensory experience that will breathe new life into your vacation. The first level is completely dedicated to cozy sleeping accommodations. Two oceanfront king bedrooms offer direct covered deck access; one has a private full bath, and the other shares a full bath with a bedroom furnished with two twin bunks. A bedroom with two twin beds and a bedroom with a queen bed are also on this level. A full bath and laundry facilities with a washer and dryer are centrally located. The oceanfront covered deck provides outdoor furnishings and a hot tub for relaxation while enjoying rejuvenating ocean breezes.

Ocean views and invigorating sunlight set the stage for the entire top level of this beachfront retreat. Multiple sofas and armchairs are situated around a seasonal gas fireplace and flatscreen TV to a backdrop of rich woodworking details. The adjacent dining area provides seating for twelve. The sun deck, accessible from the great room, has deck furnishings for sunbathing and to soak in spectacular views of the Atlantic. The well-stocked kitchen makes cooking a breeze and provides a refrigerator with icemaker, two dishwashers, a range/oven, microwave, Keurig, standard drip coffee maker, and pantry. A kitchen bar with seating for six is the perfect place for casual dining, drinks and conversation. A half bath and reading nook are conveniently located on this floor, and this level is completed by a large king bedroom that has a sitting area and private bath with jetted soaking tub, shower and dual sink vanity.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
