Head to the heart of quiet downtown Manteo for this annual tradition that illuminates the beginning of the holiday season in the central Outer Banks. The Manteo Christmas Tree Lighting is a favorite holiday event for residents and visitors of all ages, and is a great way to enjoy a dose of holiday spirit in one of the most charming communities along the North Carolina coastline.

The annual Manteo Christmas Tree Lighting takes place in the heart of the downtown area, near the steps of the festive courthouse just off of Queen Elizabeth Avenue along the waterfront. During the event, hot cocoa will be available for visitors to keep the winter chill at bay, and the crowd will be treated to an array of Christmas carols sung by local children. The event is free and open to the public, and also coincides with Downtown Manteo’s First Friday event, which means that visitors can get a jump start on their holiday shopping before or after the official town tree is lit. A great event that will inspire anyone in need of a little Christmas cheer, the Manteo Christmas Tree Lighting marks the unofficial start of the holidays on the Outer Banks.
