OCEANVIEW Salvo - Bluebeard Rd. - Make LOU'S RETREAT your family's favorite beach hideaway. Known by the neighbors as the “Castle home”, it’s just a five min walk from the ocean. Lou’s offers painless beach access with ample ocean and sound vistas. Conveniently enter the lower level after calming pool side or in the six-person hot tub. On the first level you'll find the game room complete with pool table, TV, wet bar, and full refrigerator. Steps away is a media room with a 50" TV and a comfortable couch to take in a flick. This lower level contains all the amenities for play and relaxing. The laundry room is also located on this level.
At the end of a full day, getaway to the mid-level three bedrooms, one pyramid bunk for the kids and a semi-private full bath, one master bedroom with a king and one master bedroom with a queen. Between all the rooms on the second-floor landing, there is a cozy private den with a couch, a 50" TV, an armoire outfitted with board games for all ages, as well as a humongous collection of puzzles for a rainy-day activity, and a convenient half bath. Upstairs is home to the bright open great room where you’ll find all the necessities of home, a desktop computer, an open family room with plush couches and ample kitchen for planning all your hunger needs. The business center has a dual monitor desktop PC, in case you need to catch up on something, or just check e-mail. You'll adore the entirely equipped kitchen with an island for additional seating, the laid-back open area with TV, DVD, and plenty of sitting room for the family. When the catch of the day is ready, getaway to the dining area full of sky light and take in the ocean vistas from the ample windows. For a closer look, relax on one of LOU'S many sun-soaked decks on every floor. The third floor contains a master bedroom with a king, the ideal spot to catch up on sleep and recharge for another day of fun. *All TVs in the home are equipped with Roku streaming. Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
