Breathe easy at Breakwater, a 10-bedroom oceanfront home located in Pine Island, designed to give you a break from the norm. Decorated in relaxing tones of blues, neutrals, and natural woods, the interior of Breakwater captures the essence of the Outer Banks. Experience sweeping ocean views while unwinding in the top floor great room, while playing a game of pool in the first floor rec room, or while enjoying a drink on the expansive decks. Three of the king bedrooms with private baths are oceanfront and have stunning views over the water. An elevator, private pool, private beach access and dune deck with built-in seating, screened-in outdoor rec room with ping-pong and a pool table, and flatscreen TV on the pool deck round out the amenities at Breakwater.

The owner of Breakwater owns a few oceanfront homes in Corolla and says, "this is the most tastefully designed one"!

The ground floor has a theater room with ten cozy leather seats and a large projection screen for an in-home movie night. Bedding on this floor includes a bedroom with a pyramid bunk, a sliding glass door to the pool area, and direct access to the shared hall bathroom. The other bedroom on the ground floor is a family suite furnished with a queen, twin bunk, and a twin. The family suite includes a private bath and an additional private sink. The entry foyer of this level also has a wet bar with a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, icemaker, and sink.

Let the outdoor fun ensue! The screened-in outdoor rec room includes a Smart TV, ping-pong table, outdoor pool table, and bar area. Exit the outdoor rec room to the pool area with string lighting, where you can dip in the private pool or hot tub, play cornhole, or easily stroll to the beach via the private walkway, which includes a dune deck with built-in bench seating - the perfect place to watch the sunrise.

Central to the middle level is the rec room, with a bank of windows framing views towards the water. The rec room includes a pool table, shuffleboard, a seated arcade game, Golden Tee, two mounted flatscreen TVs, and a wet bar. Bedding includes five king bedrooms, each with private baths (two enjoy views of the ocean), a bedroom with two queens with a private bath, and a bedroom with two double beds. A full bath is available in the hallway, as well as access to laundry facilities on this level. A hot tub is located on the deck with stairs down to the pool area.

The great room has cathedral ceilings, views in every direction, hardwood floors, and flatscreen TV mounted over a seasonal gas fireplace. The kitchen is appointed with white granite countertops and white cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and a Keurig. Appliances available in the kitchen include two refrigerators, two dishwashers, two sinks, an oven, an icemaker, and a microwave. There is seating for many between bar seating at the large L-shaped kitchen island and four dining tables throughout. Take a seat outside on the sunny open deck to enjoy the views that you're sure to reflect on all year long.

The king bedroom with a private bath is beautifully decorated and offers some of the best ocean views in the home. The private bath has a double vanity, soaking tub, and tile shower.

Seasonal Cabana Service: Service dates for the 2025 season are 05/03/25 - 09/20/25. Service dates for the 2026 season are 05/02/26 - 09/19/26. This home receives beachside cabana & beach chair set-up services during your stay. This complimentary service includes one 10x10 cabana tent and six beach chairs. Set-up hours are 10am to 5pm daily (except check-in/check-out day), weather permitting. This service is not available for partial-week stays and is subject to local ordinances. Service provided by Farmdog Beach Services. Additional add-on services and other rentals are available upon request for an additional charge.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
