In business steadily since 1946, Owens’ Restaurant is an Outer Banks treasure. It boasts proudly that it is the only eatery on the barrier islands that is still owned and operated by the same family. The old Nags Head-style restaurant is filled with Outer Banks artifacts dedicated to the barrier islands’ dramatic maritime history and Owens' family memorabilia. Featuring Southern Coastal cuisine, Owens is known for interesting twists on fresh local seafood dishes, like Owens Gumbo and Margarita Scallops. But the restaurant also serves fresh seafood in basic Outer Banks style, like crabcakes and Carolina Shrimp and Grits, and nightly specials based on market availability. Other offerings include whole Maine lobster, pasta, aged Angus beef, ribs and chicken. Soups, salads, appetizers and homemade desserts are also offered. All entrees are served with cheese crock and crackers, a garden salad with choice of homemade dressing, fresh-baked bread and Owens’ famous hushpuppies.
