Ship's Wheel

Ship’s Wheel is a modest little breakfast nook on the Beach Road in Kill Devil Hills not far from Nags Head. Tourists to the Outer Banks and locals alike consider itl their favorite breakfast spot on the OBX, and it’s kid-friendly and very affordable as well.

The sign out front claims they have the “Best Hotcakes in Town” and “they aren’t kidding,” says a visitor from Raleigh and many others commenting online, some adding they‘re the best pancakes anywhere.

Along with the pancakes customers like the lean spicy herb sausage, grilled parmesan tomato, “crisp yummy hash browns,” ham, biscuits with gravy and corned beef hash you can add to any Ship’s Wheel breakfast.

Regarding the service, some say they like that the friendly staff will remember you the next day, while others like the no-fuss policy over sharing their large portions, gladly providing extra plates and napkins for the kids. And, adds one customer, after a “hard night’s adventure,” that quick cup of coffee served about as soon as you sit down is much needed and welcomed.

Many are on board with the view that Ship’s Wheel is the perfect place for a breakfast on the beach - nothing fancy, just a lot of good comfort food. Serving ‘til 1pm daily during the season, it’s a great place for sleep-ins to enjoy a full breakfast or yummy brunch. It's open year round, but only on the weekends off-season.
