Aviation Park and Skatepark

Aviation Park in Kill Devil Hills offers a fun, active retreat from the beach for everyone in the family. The town park offers a playground, ball field, frog pond, fitness trail, roller hockey rink and the very popular Aviation Skatepark.

The skatepark at Aviation Park offers ramps and bowls for skateboarding and is a favorite hangout for local teens. No helmets or pads are required, but it’s a good idea to take your own safety precautions. There is a large parking lot by the skatepark, which can be used for access to all of the activities at Aviation Park.

No need for a gym membership if you take advantage of the park on a nice day. The fitness trail offers exercise suggestions along a route that can be jogged or walked, offering an opportunity for interval training at your chosen level of intensity.

The park offers a lot of nature beyond what you see from the beach side of the Outer Banks. Pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic under the shady trees. There are several picnic tables available and this area of the park often is not crowded.  Kids will enjoy a playground with slides and swings next to the ball field.

This large, well maintained park can be a peaceful retreat from the hustle of the beach during the busy summer season. Consider taking bikes to the park if you are staying in Kill Devil Hills, as the park is not far from most areas of town.  You could easily bike from the park to the Wright Brothers Memorial for a full day of activity.

Aviation Park is free to the public and open daily from sunrise until sunset.
