SOUNDSIDE Avon — Kinnakeet Shores — Let nature take its course at SOUND THERAPY and wrap you in the peaceful beauty of Pamlico Sound, home to one of the best kiteboarding and windsurfing spots on the East Coast. With seven decks offering striking vistas and the most impressive sunsets you will ever see, this secluded seven-bedroom/seven- and one-half-bath home will send your spirit soaring each nighttime when the sky bursts into a blazing palette of color.

Water sport enthusiasts will adore the direct access to a community boardwalk that provides access to the sound for kiteboarding, paddleboarding, windsurfing, or kayaking. Exploring the many trails and boardwalks in the area on a bicycle or by foot will allow you to follow your whims for a beach day at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Other great activities include fishing, calming at the Kinnakeet Shores pool and tennis facilities, or cycling into town for an ice cream after dinner. But if total relaxation is high on your wish list, SOUND THERAPY fulfills that want with four floors of calming surroundings. On the first level, a natural barrier of maritime trees and marsh grasses protect a pool surrounded by plenty of chaise lounges, 7-person hot tub, picnic table, and an outdoor shower. Apply the sunscreen, press play on your playlist and let the Bluetooth surround system set the mood. Just inside is a game room featuring a pool table, TV, and a kitchenette with constructed-in ice maker. After a day in the brilliant sunshine, settle into a darkened state-of-the-art home theater to stream your favorite movies.

The home features seven bedrooms located on levels one through three and conveniently accessed by an all-floor elevator which not only makes it handicap friendly, but painless to unload suitcases and groceries. On the first level, you will find the game room, a full bath, and a bedroom featuring two pyramid bunk beds, offering the ideal kid lair. Discover four master bedrooms on the second level — two kings and two queens —each with a private ensuite bath, including one that is handicap accessible. Three of the 4 bedrooms on this floor have personal decks to sit and relax on, to appreciate the beauty of nature that surrounds SOUND THERAPY. The laundry room with utility sink is located on this level as well. Savor two more extravagant master king rooms on the third floor, each outfitted with a private bath with soaking tub and a personal deck; one which faces the sound and the other looking east to embrace the early morning sun. Also on this floor is a calming library with TV and a sleeper couch offering sweeping vistas of the sound. A slider reveals a sound-facing deck where you can relax with a good book in a comfortable rocking chair or an old-fashioned swing seat as the sun sets below the horizon.

The fourth-floor great room, designed for camaraderie and connection, is where the family magic happens. Tall ceilings, wood floors, and windows that fill the room with light, enhancing an open-concept space. Avid cooks will savor the cavernous and well-outfitted gourmet kitchen featuring double ovens, microwaves, and dishwashers, along with a four-burner cooktop. Chill your favorite beverages in the wine cooler and enjoy the availability of two pantries to store your groceries. A enormous dining table and bar next to the kitchen provides plenty of space to enjoy your delicious feasts together while watching the beacon from the iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. There’s an office for those staying connected to work and a convenient half-bath located on the top level too.

For those who simply want to play, a game table and a 65-inch TV provide the inspiration. Inspiration though, is unavoidable when you venture onto any of the home’s outdoor spaces, especially the roomy fourth floor deck, impressive screened-in porch with table and chairs for outdoor dining enjoyment, or the private rooftop crow’s nest outfitted for evening drinks with 6 chairs and tables, ideal for an evening watching the sun set across the Pamlico Sound. Settle into a chair, marvel in the beauty of this excellent place, or simply take in a star-filled velvet sky. Book it and you will experience SOUND THERAPY, indeed.

Don’t forget the gourmet market, or shop our beautiful linens for your bedroom and bath. We also feature coastal books and fine art, or just a whimsical fun gift to bring home to family and friends. Stop by soon and don’t forget to try our estate grown wines in our stores or visit our vineyard and winery, Sanctuary Vineyards, located adjacent to the original Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
