How to spend your vacation at Carolina State of Mind:

Watch the sunrise over breakfast from one of the large rear decks. Stroll out the back gate and a few steps to the beach or stay home and enjoy the private pool area complete with a new hot tub and tiki bar. Play a game of volleyball, badminton, or bocce on the lawn, or make one of the upper decks your own box seat to watch a friendly tennis match on the community court adjacent to your backyard. On the front porches, take a late-day siesta, watch a round of HORSE at the driveway basketball hoop, or catch a spectacular sunset. If you must catch up on a little work online or want to shop or keep up with the friends and family, the internet is high speed (up to 100-140 Mbps) and reliable with strong WiFi signal throughout the entire property.

At night, enjoy a relaxing swim in the multi-colored lighted pool, make s’mores around the backyard fire pit, challenge the kids to a Foosball tournament or shoot some pool. Need a soundtrack? Feel free to stream your playlist throughout the house, back decks, pool, hot tub and tiki bar. If your energy levels are a little low from a day at the gorgeous Corolla beaches or the championship golf course, just relax with your favorite book or snag the remote to one of the 11 flat screen TVs featuring 290 Dish TV channels as well as HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and Starz. Every TV is attached to a DVR and parental controls are easy to program so the kids lay claim to the media room or rec room while the grown-ups play cards or catch up on life on the upper level. This house truly has something for ages 1-100!

Household amenities include an outdoor shower and ½ bath conveniently accessible directly from the pool deck, yard and gate to the beach walk. There are full sized refrigerators in the tiki bar, the lower game room and the kitchen, as well as two dedicated beverage refrigerators on the main level and a third in the media room. In addition to the ice from the refrigerator freezers, there is a dedicated ice maker in the media room bar and two dishwashers.

The well-appointed kitchen has everything you need for your family meals. There’s counter seating for 5, a large dining table that generously seats 8 and an additional table that seats 4. A laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers lets you pack less and return home without dirty laundry.

Carolina State of Mind is over 5,400 square feet and has over 2,500 square feet of decks and porches. It is located adjacent to the southern beach access for Currituck County and is the only house on this dead-end street! In fact, when you turn onto Yaupon from Route 12, you will be confronted with a sign that prohibits vehicles. The only traffic allowed on Yaupon are guests staying at Carolina State of Mind and trolleys from the Currituck Club bringing guests to the beach access. A stockade fence and hedgerow make it very private yet is in the very epicenter of all that Corolla has to offer. When you return home from your vacation and tell your friends and coworkers that you were basically alone in a secluded oasis, they will just shake their heads and assume you got too much sun…you will just smile and start counting the weeks down to next year’s trip.

Bed and bath linens and bed-making are provided.

The private pool is approximately 13x29 and may be heated for $500/week.

This home includes credit for $315 in beach gear rentals from our partners at VayK Life. Stay between April 4th and October 19th, 2025 (7-night minimum), and use your beach gear credit for items such as bikes, beach chairs, umbrellas, paddleboards, and more!

Layout:
Lower Level: Recreation room with pool and Foosball tables, pub chairs, refrigerator, sink, microwave and TV. Strategically it is important because the stereo receiver located in the cabinet here controls the source for the music at the pool, hot tub and tiki bar. Bedrooms on the lower level include two en suites with private baths — one with 2 twins and one with 1 king (the second bedroom with an easy entry threshold shower, assistance bars, a seat and a handheld shower head) – along with a final bedroom with a set of bunks, a pyramid bunk and a trundle (resulting in four single beds and one full bed in this bedroom) and a full hall bath just across the hall with a double vanity. All three bedrooms have direct access to the pool deck and are equipped with pool door safety alarms.

Mid Level: 4 en suites —3 kings and 1 queen, all with tiled baths and direct access to a front or rear deck. The first king suite includes a sitting area. The second king suite has a double vanity and is one of two bedrooms with a disabled accessible shower complete with assistance bars and low threshold entry. In the center of the second floor across from the elevator, double doors open to a media room with a large TV, bar, small refrigerator, ice maker and microwave.

Top Level: Living area, dining area, and kitchen, king en suite designed to be a haven of relaxation with a comfortable sitting area and a luxurious bath with tiled shower, soaking tub and a double sink vanity. Its sliding doors open to the third-floor rear deck with ocean views, also on this level is a half bath with the elevator off the living area.

Brew Thru

No trip to the Outer Banks is complete without cruising through Brew Thru, the Outer Banks’ original drive thru convenience store. Whether you’re looking for a refreshing cold beverage of Coke, Pepsi and other soft drinks on the go, stocking up your cooler with refreshments to enjoy at the beach or piling up on beer and wine for a party, Brew Thru is a fun and unique experience all vacationers need to see for themselves.

Drive-Through Beer & Gear

Brew Thru is Your One-Stop Shop at the Beach

The year was 1977, and Dana and Becky Lawrentz were chatting with friends over brews in their hometown of Akron, Ohio. They got to talking about a gas station convenience store in the area that had built a makeshift drive-through. Everyone agreed it would be pretty great if you could actually drive through a convenience store and pick up everything you needed without getting out of the car. But what would you call a place like that?

Well, you’d call it a Brew Thru.

It was an idea they couldn’t shake, so the Lawrentzes moved to the Outer Banks and built the first Brew Thru with the help of a partner. The idea was that people could come buy everything they would need for their trip to the beach—beer, wine, soft drinks, snacks, ice—without getting out of the car. That same year, a t-shirt salesman visiting the store and talked them into adding t-shirts to their product line—and 44 years later there are now more than five million Brew Thru t-shirts out in the wild.

The Lawrentzes’ daughter Brandy and her husband Philip Foreman purchased the business from them in 2002, and they now operate five locations across the Outer Banks.“We love being the one-stop shop for folks on the way to their beach house,” Foreman says. “Our car tenders are the friendliest people at the beach. We’re here to greet you, get you everything you need for your trip, load it up in the trunk for you, and have you leaving with a smile on your face.”

The store is quite expansive, featuring more than 100 brands of beer, dozens of wines and even a vast selection of cigars—not to mention all the snacks, t-shirts and other gear. To make ordering a little easier, customers in line get a menu—fondly known as the Summer-y—that outlines everything available at the store. These Summer-ies are also available in many of the beach rentals, which allows vacationers to decide what they want before driving through.

For customers who would like to get out and stretch their legs, there’s the Brew Thru Shop in Kill Devil Hills, where you can find their world famous t-shirts and other gifts. New t-shirt designs are created each year, making a yearly Brew Thru t-shirt a favorite of locals and annual visitors to the Outer Banks.

The Foremans both grew up in the Outer Banks, and they love that Brandy’s parents’ vision for a friendly and convenient place for people to grab their brews and other beach stay essentials is continuing to flourish.

“Our family has been welcoming people to the Outer Banks since 1977,” Foreman says. “We love this beautiful place, and we want everybody to get to enjoy it.”
