The ground level offers a 2-car garage, a private pool which opens in early May (heat optional for $600), a hot tub, and outdoor showers. A large, well-equipped recreation room offers a pool table, TV, and a wet bar with a full-sized refrigerator and microwave. A half bath and laundry room are adjacent. This level has 2 en suites with private baths that open onto the pool deck. One bedroom has a pyramid bunk with a Jacuzzi tub and the other has a queen bed with a TV.

The mid level has an open living, dining and kitchen area with a half bath. The beauty of this room and the amazing ocean views will take your breath away! Unwind in this lovely spot while enjoying the ambiance brought by the floor-to-ceiling windows. Watch the sun rise over the majestic Atlantic Ocean. The spacious custom kitchen has 2 sinks and 2 dishwashers, a gas and an electric range/oven, and a wine cooler. There is plenty of seating at the dining room table, the bar seating, plus a breakfast nook. Preparing meals in the kitchen is a snap, and the cooks in the family will love it. A generous-sized king en suite has a TV, access to the sun deck, a Jacuzzi tub, and beautiful custom tile work in the private bath.

The top level offers a comfy sitting area that overlooks the living room. Fantastic ocean views are yours, and what a great spot to curl up with a book. Put your feet up and relax, you deserve it! There are also 2 spacious, oceanfront queen en suites on this level, each with new updated custom tiled showers and private deck entrance. Another en suite offers 2 twin beds, and a stall shower in the bathroom. A den is equipped with a daybed and a trundle twin bed, a TV, and a private covered deck featuring some distant sound views and a half bath.

A wooden boardwalk is shared by only one other home. This leads to the beautiful southern-facing beach where you can relax in the sun, hunt for shells, go fishing, surf, or do whatever your heart desires. Atlantis South is located just across the street from the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry and close to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. Numerous marinas are close by so that you can fish the gulf stream or book some sound side charters. Restaurants and shopping are also nearby for your dining and shopping pleasure. Independently owned by a member of one of the Outer Banks’ oldest families, the Ben Franklin store is stocked with just about everything a visitor would need to go to the beach.

 

Ben Franklin stores were once part of a five-and-dime retail empire, with about 2,500 locations across the country in its heyday. As decades passed and the times and customers began to change, many closed their doors, leading to fewer than 150 of these nostalgic shops. Nags Head Ben Franklin, however, has withstood the test of time and adapted to the needs of its customers to provide a memorable shopping experience on the Outer Banks.

 

Debbie Terry Tolson, manager of the Ben Franklin location in Nags Head, recalls working with former owner Tommie Daniels. Daniels’ father, Moncie Daniels, started the business in downtown Manteo in the early 1900s. The Daniels family has been a longstanding fixture in the Outer Banks business community—Moncie even sold gas to the Wright brothers in 1903.

 

Tommie, with an excellent business mind, saw the opportunity the new Bypass presented and, in 1977, he opened the Nags Head location of Ben Franklin. He was one of the first businesses on the Bypass,” Tolson says.In addition to a new location, the Ben Franklin store saw a new group of customers.

 

“People would come from all around because Tommie had a little bit of everything—it was more like a five and 10 then,” Tolson explains. “As he went to the beach, he began to get more tourists, so he started catering more and more to visitors.”

 

Today, the 21,000-square-foot souvenir shop quickly catches the attention of anyone driving by thanks to the ocean-themed mural that decorates the façade of the building, painted by local artist Rob Snyder. This Ben Franklin location has become the must-stop shop for both first-time visitors to the area and generations of families who escape to the Outer Banks annually.

 

Tolson credits the great prices and friendly customer service to the success of the location, which keeps families returning.“People come in all the time and tell me, ‘my grandmother or my grandfather used to bring me here and now I’m bringing my children,’” she shares. “One of my favorite parts about working here is seeing the people come back year after year.”
