Trading Post

Centrally located on the Beach Road near the Kill Devil Hills bath house, The Trading Post has everything you could possibly need for fun and sun on the beach. And you won’t have to fight highway traffic to get it.

For the water there are floats, fins, goggles, boogie boards, bikinis, rubber shoes and flip flops. You’ll also find beach chairs, towels and umbrellas for relaxing in the shade or soaking up the rays, along with a good selection of sun screens and lotions for protection. But  just in case you overtax your melanin, there’s a sunburn first aid section to help out.

The Trading Post carries an ample selection of swim and beachwear for men, women and children, as well as OBX-theme t-shirts and sweats, including hooded pullovers and cardigans. For those who like to enhance their bikini bodies, the Trading Post offers a number of henna tattoo designs to choose from. And they also have a nice selection accessories, including beach bags, hats, sunglasses, necklaces, ankle bracelets and more.

In the souvenir department are lots of magnets, key chains, shell wind chimes, postcards and many other knick knacks to take home, as well as some very special wooden lighthouse replicas.

The store also stocks sodas and other convenience store items, and of course it wouldn’t be the beach if there wasn’t salt water taffy. The Trading Post has been an OBX staple since the 1960s. It’s now closed in the winter and has great off-season sales.
