Discover a time honored fishing tradition while having a ball with the local wildlife of the Pamlico Sound at this special summertime program that’s hosted by the National Park Service, and which is sure to be a crowd pleaser for kids of all ages.

The Soundside Seining on Hatteras Island is held every week on Friday morning, and allows kids and adults alike to head to a picturesque corner of the island to try their hand at seining – or stretching out a net into the shallow sound waters to see what fish, crabs, and other wildlife take the bait.

The event is held at the Sandy Bay soundside parking lot just south of Hatteras Village, and from here, folks will head out to the water where the net and a ranger guide will be waiting. Participants are encouraged to wear clothes they can get wet, and sturdy water shoes are required – (no flip flops or crocs.) The event is free for all attendees and no pre-registration is required. Fun for folks of all ages – and especially kids – this is sure to be a crowd pleasing event that will make everyone fall in love with the wonderfully diverse wildlife and fishing methods of the OBX.
