Take a pause from a tour through Ocracoke Village to soak up the centuries of stories and legendary figures that once called this island home with this special weekly presentation on Ocracoke History.

Hosted by the National Park Service, which manages the Cape Hatteras National Seashore on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, this engaging 30 minute session may not be long, but it provides a world of insight and info on this tiny island community from the ground up.

Ocracoke Island has been inhabited by various residents for hundreds of years, and during this time, the island has retained its coastal culture and identity. It rose to fame as one of the favorite hide-outs of Blackbeard the Pirate, and eventually became the hopping tourism destination that modern day vacationers know and love. Visitors will get an inside glimpse into these decades of stories at this presentation, that’s held at the inviting Ocracoke Visitor Center Amphitheater at the edge of the village, next to the Cedar Island / Swan Quarter ferry docks. Led by a knowledgeable park ranger who will bring the local history into focus, this brief but full engaging talk will shine a spotlight on the deep roots of this island destination.
