OBX Biplanes offers open cockpit air tours of the Outer Banks and boasts one of the area's "most exciting things to do." The company describes the biplane tour as like a trip back in time - much like an “Out of Africa” flying experience of feeling “the wind in your hair, the sun on your face and joy in your heart."

During the tours, which can be customized on request, two passengers sit up front in the plane, with the pilot seated behind, while the plane cruises along the coast or other areas of interest. A standard tour features a large number of local attractions, as well as sightings of dolphins, fish schools, sea turtles and shipwrecks.

The company is based at Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo and prides itself in its commitment to a high degree of safety and service. Though it looks like an antique, the plane that flies you on your open-cockpit tour is a WACO barnstormer, built with steel frame and the latest avionics, among 300 engineering improvements.

You can visit OBX Biplanes' website for pricing and to view a virtual tour. The company also offers access to helicopter tours through its sister company, Coastal Helicopters.
