See just how wild the local Hatteras Island environment can be with this unique event that highlights the beauty of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore after dark. The Night Sky Over Hatteras program is held every Tuesday throughout the summer season, and provides an opportunity for visitors to enjoy an evening of stargazing in one of the most scenic and isolated destinations along the East Coast.
Attendees will meet at the parking area near ORV Ramp 43 in the heart of Buxton, which is located just a mile or so past the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Once on the sand, visitors can look up to enjoy a stunning and completely natural spectacle, while a helpful ranger guide will point out stars, planets, and constellations of interest. The event lasts just an hour or so, and attendees are encouraged to bring along their own beach chairs and blankets to spread out and get comfortable. (Bug spray may come in very handy as well.) Free to everyone in the public with no restrictions on age or number of people, this unique summertime event will be a true joy for anyone who wants to lean back, relax, and just take in the abundant nightlife that natural Hatteras Island has to offer.
