For nearly 40 years, Michael Halminski has been photographing the Outer Banks. His work reflects his knowledge and love of the area and includes fauna, landscapes, seascapes, forests, weather images and all the beautiful aspects of coastal living.
His gallery has been operating for over 25 years and offers more than 30 images on reasonably priced, blank note cards. He also has a variety of prints for sale, which he prints himself.
Halminski has a delicate touch and shoots like an artist. Most of his work has been shot on Hatteras Island, but his portfolio also includes images from his travels to coasts and rainforests of Costa Rica. He also compiled a pictorial record as he worked two winters as an oysterman on a sailing skipjack in the Chesapeake Bay.
His work has appeared in numerous publications such as Newsweek, Orion Nature Quarterly, the Washington Post, Philadelphia Enquirer, Christian Science Monitor, Southern Living, Our State, Coastwatch and others.
Halminski also has worked as an assistant to National Geographic / Magnum photographer David Alan Harvey on some Outer Banks assignments.
If you can't get by during regular business hours, give them a call. They will do their best to work with you year round. Call in advance during the off-season to make sure the gallery is open the day you would like to visit.
