Young visitors can enjoy a full week of fishing at some of the hottest spots in the central Outer Banks at this day camp that’s designed for budding anglers. The Fisherman’s Camp, which is orchestrated by the North Carolina Aquarium at Roanoke Island, will feature a full week of fishing from local piers, the surf, and the sound waters, and will hopefully result in plenty of great “fish stories” for everyone involved.
The five-day camp will include a world of adventures that take place at varying locales throughout the Outer Banks. Campers will fish from a local OBX pier or two, will tour a fish packing house to see how fish gets from the water to the dinner table, will learn more about sea turtles and watermen conservation efforts, and will even learn about crabbing and net fishing – two local traditions. Following the footsteps of generations of watermen, this camp focuses on all the unique aspects of OBX fishing, and goes miles beyond just casting a line. As a result, it’s a fine combination of area history, local culture, and great times on the water that kids will adore. The camp is open to children ages 10-13, and reservations can be made online starting February 25.
