Visitors who are new to the Outer Banks fishing scene can learn all the fundamentals - (with an emphasis on “fun”) - at this engaging session that is hosted by the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education. Family Fishing is a free and unique event that will show anglers of all ages the basics of fishing in the area waters, and which will hopefully foster a lifelong love of fishing for generations to come.

Fishing has deep roots on the Outer Banks, and during this activity, visitors of all ages will head to the docks of the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education to learn the basics of reeling in catches from the sound. Located on the borders of the Currituck Sound and adjacent to the Currituck Heritage Park, the center is an ideal destination for a fishing outing along the water’s edge. During the session, visitors will learn how to cast, safely release fish, and how to identify different species. All the equipment required is provided – including bait and poles – and all visitors have to bring is a willingness to learn and to have a ball. The event is free and is open to all ages, although advanced reservations are required and can be made online, or by calling 252.453.0221 ex. 1.
