Celebrate Earth Day by making the local Outer Banks beaches a brighter place to live and visit with this special area-wide clean-up where volunteers of all ages are welcome. The Earth Day - Hope Spot Cleanups is a series of community events that are hosted by the Plastic Ocean Project and OBX 5 Minute Beach Cleanup, and which provides a way to give back to the beautiful beaches that all visitors love, as well as obtain information on how to keep the beaches pristine for generations to come.

Visitors can join in the Earth Day activities via a number of ways. Locals and vacationers can organize their own beach clean-up at their favorite stretch of shoreline, can make a donation, can spread the word, or can head to a local “Hope Spot” to join in an already planned and orchestrated clean-up in progress. Because Hatteras in particular is a Hope Spot - or a designated special place in the world that is critical to the health of the ocean - it’s more important than ever to make sure the beaches remain clean and inviting for visitors of all varieties. As such, this Earth Day event is a great vehicle for a little community outreach while enjoying the Outer Banks’ gorgeous shorelines.
