Under new ownership in 2012, Duke’s Antique Mall in Central Square Shopping Center is overflowing with wonderful treasures stretching back centuries. Six dealers sell their wares at this large, family-owned establishment, including Southern Soldier Antiques, a well-known Outer Banks business that deals in Civil War-era items. The store buys antiques outright, so there are no consignment items for sale.
This is one of those stores where every corner and every space from ceiling to floor is filled with some interesting old something, whether it’s classic books, vintage clothing, primitive furniture, Victorian china, Civil War swords or hand-sewn quilts. There are also old magazines and posters, some from northeastern North Carolina. There’s shelves and shelves of old bottles, many no doubt found in the nearby sounds.
There’s plenty of other Outer Banks antiques to be found here, which could be one of the more interesting souvenirs for visitors who want something to remind them of their vacation.
