Duck's Cottage & Downtown Books

A brand new bookstore in downtown Manteo, Ducks Cottage & Downtown Books is a year-round, eclectic shop with lots to enjoy. Three cozy chairs take center stage in the shop that has elevated most of its books above flood level. The site of the former Manteo Booksellers, which sustained irreparable damage in Hurricane Irene, has a new ambiance that joins toys and books under one roof.

Loads of stuff for small fry includes wooden blocks, bouncy balls, colorful beach toys, kid’s beach chairs, and floor puzzles for the entire family to enjoy. There is a section for arts and crafts and fun Melissa & Doug puppets. You will love the Muppet puppets in the mix.  Pick up a T-shirt with the store’s logo or a variety of note cards and postcards. They have some stunning sealife cards – birds, fish, shells - that look like original watercolors.

Book choices include fiction, nonfiction, food and wine, Outer Banks selections, mass market paperbacks and best sellers. They will special order books for you including hard-to-find out of print selections.

Purchase a variety of teas and coffees to take home. And before you walk out the door, remember to look up and view the huge stuffed sealife floating through the air – a porpoise and sea turtle. The new shop is a fun and educational stop! Check out the companion shop in Duck!
