The Carey LeSieur Foundation's annual Bucket Party is a neighborhood celebration that combines a great time with a wonderfully worthy cause. The foundation originated in the memory of Carey LeSieur, a beloved nurse practitioner on Hatteras Island who passed away from cancer. In honor of Carey, every year, the foundation raises money for scholarships for local students who want to go into the healthcare field. The Bucket party is one of the biggest events for the foundation, and is named after the brightly colored buckets where donations are accepted throughout the party.

The event features a combination of food, music, raffles, and community fellowship, and the highlight is easily the potluck dinner that features beef brisket, classic southern pulled pork, and Anita's Grandmother's Italian meatballs and gravy. There is live music every year, with a special appearance by the CHSS jazz band for 2018, and this year’s event will also have a dog show that starts at 5:30 p.m. With fun raffles throughout the afternoon and lots of ways to celebrate, this fundraising event is a great way to have a ball while supporting a favorite local cause. Bring your own beverages, a side dish, and/or a potluck dish to share, and have a great time meeting and mingling some fun-loving islanders!
