Creative Outer Banks visitors who’d like an afternoon of relaxing while discovering a new hands-on art form can sign up for this special Batik Workshop that is hosted by the Dare County Arts Council.

During this three hour art class that is open to the public, students will learn the art of Batik, which is a “resist” process of making intricate designs on swaths of fabric. Through this artistic medium, students will use wax to prevent various dyes from penetrating the cloth, which in turn leaves blank areas in the overall dyed fabric, and which results in stunning and eye-catching designs. The class will be held at the Dare County Arts Council center in the heart of Manteo, and is open to artists of all skill levels – from beginning to advance. Best suited for creative types who are 16 years old and up, this class serves as a unique way to discover a new talent while soaking up the local arts scene of the Outer Banks. The class is led by acclaimed local artist Robin York, and is $35 for DCAC members or $45 for nonmembers. All supplies are provided, and visitors can register for the event online via the Dare County Art Council’s website.
