Ever wonder what it might be like to work with the North Carolina Aquarium at Roanoke Island? This special event is your opportunity to find out. Go behind the scenes of the aquarium and help staff prepare for the day’s adventures at “Aquarist for the Day” – an activity that is ideal for budding marine biologists.

Throughout the day, aquarists will learn the ropes of life at the aquarium, and will help out with a myriad of tasks such as preparing foods for the boxed turtles, making “vegetable Jell-O,” creating treats for the lively river otters, and helping prepare fare for the largest tank in the aquarium. Once the meals are prepared, participants can watch in wonder as the varying marine life gobble up their snacks, and can learn more about how the aquarium works on a day-to-day basis. This event is open to all visitors ages 8 and up, and kids ages 8-12 must be accompanied by a parent. (Reservations can be made online.) A unique experience that truly dives into life at the aquarium, the “Aquarist for the Day” event will be a thrill for anyone who has wanted to go below the surface of one of North Carolina’s favorite aquariums.
