With a mission of supporting the arts, sponsoring student scholarships and offering creative goods at affordable prices, Frisco Art Center is a worthwhile Hatteras Island stop.

See art demonstrations through the season, and view work from over 75 coastal, local, and North Carolina artists. The center actually houses three galleries – The Art Cottage, Sea Glass Gallery and a nostalgic Christmas shop. Wander from room to room to enjoy all three. The Christmas shop features a variety of ornaments all handcrafted by artists. There are no imports here. View hand painted ornaments, and pottery and blown glass selections for your tree!

Enjoy viewing wood, glass and metal sculptures, sea glass jewelry, ceramics and much more.  Imagine undulating glass jellyfish and glass statues of leaping marlin!

While on the island, take advantage of your proximity to the ocean. Breath in the gorgeous coastal environment and witness first hand what inspires many of the Outer Banks artists.

Kitty Hawk, NC

Kitty Hawk, NC

Many visitors remark on the unusual town names to be found on the Outer Banks, and one of the names that causes the most head-scratching is Kitty Hawk. A small but popular vacation town in the busy central Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk was originally deemed "Chickahawk" by its original Native American residents, meaning a "place to hunt geese." Over the generations, the name changed slightly, the area became more developed, and the town became the popular tourist destination it is today.
