Young visitors who want to launch a love of fishing can enjoy a fun afternoon along the water at the “What’s the Catch?” fishing event that is hosted by the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island.

Held on multiple dates throughout the summer season, this special fishing session takes place on the soundside pier behind the aquarium building, which extends into a scenic section of the wide sound waters.

From this vantage point, young anglers will learn all the skills required to catch their very first fish on the Outer Banks. This includes assembling the tackle, baiting the hook, catch-and-release techniques, and learning all about all the different fish species that call the Outer Banks home. This event is open to all kids (and adults) ages 5 and up, and kids who are 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult to participate. Closed-toe shoes are required, and the cost is $11 per person for non-aquarium members. (Spots for this event can be reserved online in advance.) Serving as a cool way to discover the local waters off the oceanside beaches, this kid-friendly activity will show new anglers of all varieties all the tips and tricks for fishing on the Outer Banks.
