Join a naturalist on a journey through the salty marshes and wetlands that border Roanoke Island on this special expedition that will thrill nature lovers of all ages. The Wetlands Walk is a special event that’s held alongside the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, and which will highlight all the beautiful scenery and fascinating wildlife that the Outer Banks soundside has to offer.

Visitors are encouraged to bring along their binoculars for a soggy stroll through a nearby salt marsh where the wildlife is abundant. Along the way, visitors can expect to examine and spot a wide array of species, including water birds, marsh plants, and other inhabitants that may be residing just below the water’s surface. The trek is guided by an aquarium naturalist who will explain all the details on the local environment, and what makes it so special. The event is open to all visitors ages 8 and up, and kids ages 8-12 must be accompanied by a paying adult. (Reservations for the event can be made online.) Held at the end of the summer season, and offering miles of views, this unique event will make any vacationer a fan of soundside life on the Outer Banks.
