Enjoy a little extra insight into one of the most tumultuous time periods in both local and national history with this special presentation on the Civil War on Hatteras Island that’s held at the inspiring Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum.

Author and local historian Drew Pullen will be the host of this event, which will provide a fascinating perspective on what the Civil War was like on this delicate barrier island off the coast of North Carolina. Though Hatteras Island didn’t have a major role in the war, the site was nevertheless the home of several conflicts, an almost comical battle called the Chicamacomico Races, and memorable events that still hold a legendary status in many locals’ minds. The very popular talk is held every Wednesday in the summer season, and history buffs are welcome to attend. The event is completely free, as is admission to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum itself, which makes it a budget-friendly way to dive into local history, and local culture. The museum is located at the southern tip of Hatteras Village, and is next to the Ocracoke / Hatteras ferry docks. No reservations are required to attend, and this talk is sure to be an engaging highlight for any visitor who wants to dive deeper into local history.
