Head to one of the most beloved museums in the southern Outer Banks on a summertime Friday for an opportunity to dive deeper into Native American culture. The Frisco Native American Museum hosts a special program on “Talking Sticks” every week, which allows kids (and adults) of all ages to discover something new through a hands-on and educational event.

The Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center is located in the southern Hatteras Island town of Frisco, and is renowned for its thousands of artifacts that pay homage to local, regional, and even national Native American tribes. In addition, the site has a myriad of extra attractions for guests – such as the outdoor fossil pit which is open daily – to entice visitors to explore this island landscape further. During the Talking Sticks program, visitors can learn all about this instrumental tool that teaches Native American children how to listen and respect other peoples’ points of view. Visitors can make their own talking sticks at the museum during the event, and can learn how to use it for effective and fair conversations. Both fun and educational, the Talking Sticks program at the Frisco Native American museum is sure to be an engaging event that adds to the allure of this favorite area museum.
