The Outer Banks has a rich sailing culture that seemingly begins and ends in Manteo, and young visitors who want to join in the fun, and who want to get their toes wet in a new sport, can sign up for the weekly Summer Youth Sailing Camp which is held every Friday all summer long.

This camp that is hosted by the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum and the Outer Banks Community Sailing Program will show newcomers ages 8-16 the ropes of sailing from the ground up, with all supplies provided to enjoy a full morning and afternoon on the water. The camp features a total of 14 sessions, and no prior experience is required to sign up and set sail on an exciting new adventure. All of the instruction for young sailors is based on the US Sailing guidelines, and the professional teachers will make learning how to navigate through the water a joy. The coaches are experienced and have years of training, and will instill teamwork, self-confidence, an appreciation for nature, and a whole lot of fun into every session. A unique opportunity for young watersports fans to learn something new, the Summer Youth Sailing Camp is a cool event where learning and having a ball go hand in hand.
