Young explorers can enjoy a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with sea turtles at this special day camp that focuses on one of the Outer Banks’ most beloved summertime residents.

The Shellebrate Turtles Summer Camp, which is hosted by the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, will give campers an up-close look at the Sea Turtle Assistance and Rehabilitation Center, and will present a myriad of activities that perfectly combine education and miles of fun. During the camp, participants will learn how to identify North Carolina sea turtles, will prepare treats for turtles staying at the center, and will even meet some of the current turtle patients at the site. In addition, campers will go through all the steps from the initial rehab to the final release through recording measurements and assessing a turtle’s health. With opportunities to see sea turtles up-close, as well as a possible visit to a real sea turtle nest on the beach, this camp is sure to instill a lifelong love of the Outer Banks and its array of incredible marine life. The class is open to campers 7-10, and advanced reservations for either of the two summer sessions can be made online.
