The Rogallo Kite Festival is a free and family-orientated event that features multiple days of kite flying to honor Francis Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the flexible wing. His initial inventions started the sport of hang gliding, and his designs have carried over into the stunt kites, power kites and hang gliders that are flown today. To celebrate this innovator, visitors will be treated to a full day of kite-flying fun in one of the best destinations on the East Coast for high flyers, Jockey’s Ridge State Park.

During the Rogallo Kite Festival, Kitty Hawk Kites and friends will be displaying amazing 30 - 100 foot kites on top of Jockey's Ridge. Visitors will be able to join in the fun and fly a kite of their own, take part in FREE stunt kite lessons, and even enjoy a little kite making, which is a perfect way for kids to get crafty. The event is free and open to the public, and everyone is invited to drop by and check out the action at Jockey’s Ridge. With plenty of ways to celebrate the life and inventions of Francis Rogallo, this summertime event is a fun opportunity to discover the high life on the Outer Banks.
