The Roanoke Island Historical Association is launching a brand-new culinary celebration in 2026 with the debut of the Roanoke Island Oyster Shellabration and BBQ, a waterfront event that brings together fresh local seafood, Eastern North Carolina barbecue, live entertainment, and Outer Banks culture in the heart of Wanchese. Hosted at the Safe Harbor Marina and Tiki Bar, the festival promises a relaxed afternoon filled with food, music, and coastal charm.
Presented by the same team behind the popular Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival, the Roanoke Island Oyster Shellabration and BBQ invites guests to enjoy a wide variety of regional specialties while overlooking the working waterfront and fishing fleet of Wanchese Harbor. Attendees will have the chance to sample oysters from North Carolina growers prepared shucked, roasted, and fried, along with local shrimp, chowders, biscuits, desserts, and barbecue from Pigman's Bar-B-Que.
In addition to the food, the event will feature live music by the Blue Crab Boys and a special Pow Wow presentation performed by Indigenous cast members of The Lost Colony, adding a cultural and historical element to the festivities. The new event is designed to celebrate Outer Banks food traditions, local heritage, and community spirit while creating a memorable waterfront experience in Wanchese.
