The Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is renowned as a haven for the endangered red wolves, and during this special experience, visitors can get an insider’s perspective of these amazing species.

During this event, refuge staff and dedicated volunteers will offer visitors the experience of a lifetime via a journey into the heart of the refuge to hear the red wolves howl into the night. In addition to the live “howling,” attendees will also learn all about the red wolves, including how they came to the refuge, and how they have thrived in the coastal region.

The Red Wild Howling program only occurs on clear nights when there is no heavy winds, rain, or lightning, and / or impassable road conditions. No reservations are required, and the program is $10 per adult and free for all children ages 12 and under. Visitors will meet at the Creef Cut Wildlife Trail parking lot before heading into the woods for an incredible live show. A haunting program that’s both exciting and educational, the weekly Red Wolf Howling presents an incredible opportunity to discover one of the many fascinating residents that call the barely inland region of the Outer Banks their wild home.
