Community members and visitors are invited to join the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, the Dare County Tourism Board Special Committee for the Outer Banks Long-Range Tourism Management Plan (LRTMP), and local partners for a volunteer beach cleanup focused on protecting and preserving the natural beauty of the Outer Banks coastline.
Held in partnership with the National Park Service’s Adopt-a-Beach Program, the cleanup supports The Outer Banks Promise, a destination-wide pledge that encourages residents and visitors alike to practice responsible stewardship and help safeguard the beaches, wildlife, and ecosystems that make the Outer Banks unique. As part of this initiative, the Bureau has officially adopted Cape Hatteras National Seashore Beach Access Ramp 1, a one-mile stretch of shoreline that extends from the pedestrian access area just south of the homes in South Nags Head to Ramp 2 at Coquina Beach.
Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate in this hands-on effort to remove litter and marine debris from one of the region’s most scenic and heavily visited shorelines. In addition to helping protect wildlife and improve beach conditions, the event provides an opportunity for community members and visitors to connect while making a positive impact on the environment.
Participants are asked to arrive a few minutes early to allow time for check-in, waiver completion, and a brief safety orientation before the cleanup begins. Cleanup supplies, including bags and gloves, will be provided.
Parking is available at the beach access located on South Old Oregon Inlet Road, approximately five miles south of the northern entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore at Whalebone Junction. Volunteers should wear weather-appropriate clothing and are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of enthusiasm for helping keep the Outer Banks clean and beautiful for future generation
