Explore the quiet side of the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge with this special excursion that winds through the scenic and wild waters that border Hatteras Island. The Pea Island Canoe Tour is a unique trek that will appeal to nature lovers and birdwatchers of all ages, and which is sure to be a highlight of any island vacation.

The tour launches from the Pea Island Visitor Center, and from this starting point, visitors will head to a network of creeks, marshes, and islands that are found within the miles-wide Pamlico Sound. Along the way, visitors can expect to see a number of local residents, which is not surprising considering that the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is famed as home to roughly 400 different species of birds. Crabs, turtles, and other wild species may also make an appearance along the tour, and an expert guide will explain all about the refuge as well as the local critters that frequent the area waters. Designed especially for kids who want a hands-on experience, this kayak tour is a great way to discover something new and unique on the Outer Banks. Reservations are required, and the cost is $30 for adults and $20 for children ages 12 and under.
