Families, volunteers, and community members are invited to celebrate connection, inclusion, and the joy of the ocean during Ohana Surf Day at Jennette's Pier. Designed specifically for individuals with special needs, the event creates a welcoming and supportive environment where participants can experience the excitement of surfing and spending time in the water alongside trained volunteers and community supporters.
Held along the beautiful shores of Nags Head, Ohana Surf Day focuses on creating positive memories, building confidence, and sharing the spirit of encouragement and community. Organizers say the event is about much more than surfing — it’s an opportunity for participants, families, and volunteers to connect, celebrate accomplishments, and enjoy a fun day together at the beach.
The event is divided into two sessions and welcomes up to 40 participants throughout the day. All necessary surf equipment is provided, along with lunch, snacks, and plenty of enthusiasm from volunteers and organizers who help make the experience both safe and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Community organizations, local businesses, and volunteers are encouraged to take part by supporting the event, helping spread awareness, or simply cheering on participants from the shore. With ocean waves, smiles, and a strong sense of togetherness, Ohana Surf Day highlights the welcoming and compassionate spirit of the Outer Banks community.
