Visitors can pick up the fresh catches of the day while supporting the historic and local commercial fishing industry with a stop at the island’s own Ocracoke Seafood Co. Founded in 2006 as one of the last fish houses on Ocracoke Island, this fish market that is owned and operated by the Ocracoke Foundation, (a local 501(c)3 for the benefit of local waterwomen and watermen), does a world of good close to home while offering the freshest fare available.
The Ocracoke Seafood Co. serves as a base of operations for more than thirty watermen and waterwomen from Ocracoke and neighboring communities along the coast, but everyday visitors who are exploring the island will find a lot of tempting reasons to stop by this small shop and fish house as well. The site offers a seafood market with fresh fish and other selections that change daily and with the season, as well as an assortment of condiments, spices, and other extras to make your seafood dinner shine. With a few other goodies, including T-shirts, apparel, and other gift or specialty items, the Ocracoke Seafood Co. goes miles beyond your standard seafood market.
