Ocracoke Island truly sparkles when the sun goes down and the stars come out, and visitors can enjoy an opportunity to take in this stunning landscape by attending the Ocracoke Island After Dark program – a special event that’s hosted by the National Park Service.

This weekly event is held every Monday night in the summer months at the Ocracoke Campground, which is located just a couple miles north of the heart of Ocracoke Village.  Visitors can head to the beach with their beach blankets, chairs, and other equipment in tow, to lean back and look at the stars while a local ranger from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore provides a bit of insight on the stunning display overhead. Because of the quiet location, expect to see plenty of amazing views in a serene atmosphere that’s as relaxing as a sunny day on the beach itself. This event is open to everyone, with no requirement on number of people, and is free to the public. (Bug spray is recommended, especially on hot days with little wind.) A unique experience that will make anyone fall in love with the island, the Ocracoke Island After Dark event is a great way to discover how brilliant the beaches can be after hours.
