National Running Day is a special event which is held on the first Wednesday in June, and which brings together runners from all around the country to celebrate and declare their inherent love of running. The day is a perfect vehicle for lifelong runners to reaffirm their dedication to the sport, and it’s also a way for newcomers and beginners to kick start a passion for running of their own.

On the Outer Banks, visitors and locals alike can join in the fun with a scenic run or jog through the heart of Southern Shores / Kitty Hawk. Runners can opt for a 5K or 1 mile road course, and all participants will receive a T-shirt, a custom bib, and refreshments during the event. Commemorative awards are also given to the top three male and female finishers overall in the 5K race. The event fee to participate is $20, and runners can pick up their packets before the race at the TRI Outer Banks Sports in Kill Devil Hills. A great activity for visitors and locals of all ages, this morning run is a refreshing and rejuvenating celebration of running along the Outer Banks that everyone who loves to get out and explore will adore.
