Open from May through early fall, Manteo Farmer's Market is a downtown highlight for locals and visitors alike. The goods sold here range from traditional to arty with food, jewelry and basketry in the mix, and the locale in the heart of the downtown area makes this weekly event easy to reach for visitors throughout Roanoke Island.
The offerings change weekly with some mainstays. Past market days have included fresh squeezed lemonade, wild and wonderful fish art, ceramics, lots of produce, stunning and all natural basketry, very cool and colorful ribbon necklaces and much more.
You generally can also find jellies, soaps, sea glass jewelry, fresh food to munch on, and an abundance of handmade goods which can include everything from fresh bread to locally produced wines.
The setting can’t be beat as it’s located on the waterfront right next door to a children’s park and boardwalks that line Shallowbag Bay. Views are lovely; the atmosphere is cheery. It makes for a great way to start your Saturday. Emphasis is on creative and fresh here. Move from a morning at the market to strolling through the town for a shopping spree or a visit to Roanoke Island Festival Park, a fun, interactive Mecca for history.
