Crabbing is a tradition on the Outer Banks, and during this special activity, visitors will learn all about how to catch these tasty critters along the local sound waters. The “Let’s Go Crabbing!” event is hosted by the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, and is a cool session that will show anglers the ropes of landing a few tasty blue crabs while enjoying the sunny environment.
The event is held at the aquarium’s own soundside pier, which is found in its waterfront backyard, and from here, visitors will learn a little basic biology of the blue crab before hitting the water. At the water’s edge, visitors will get a tutorial on how to handle a hand line, while hopefully reeling in a couple crustaceans from the salty sound. This event is open to all visitors ages 6 and up, and kids ages 6-12 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Reservations can be made online for the date of choice, and closed toe shoes are required for the event. Held throughout the summer season, and serving as a cool opportunity to discover a local fishing tradition, the “Let’s Go Crabbing!” event is sure to be a favorite outing for anglers of all ages.
