Ignite your holiday spirit with this special annual event that combines the natural beauty of the Outer Banks with twinkling Christmas lights for an unforgettable display and seasonal experience. The Kites With Lights event is hosted by the flagship Kitty Hawk Kites store that’s just across the street from Jockey’s Ridge State Park, and the beautiful landscape of twinkling kites with the iconic massive sand dunes of the park in the background will be a sight that spectators won’t soon forget.

The event takes place just a couple days after Thanksgiving, and is a great opportunity for visitors to ease into the Christmas spirit while enjoying a visit to one of the most picturesque parks in the central Outer Banks. During this special show, the sky above Jockey’s Ridge State Park will light up with giant display kites that are decked out with a display of sparkling lights. Visitors can warm up with delicious treats at the adjacent Kitty Hawk Kites store, and the weekend features a variety of holiday sales and visits with Santa for a full day and night experience. With natural and illuminated beauty throughout, the Kites with Lights event is quickly becoming a favorite holiday tradition for locals and holiday visitors alike.

Scientists run these dolphin tours as part of their research on these beloved aquatic animals, so you know this will be an interesting trip. Passengers will be able to see how researchers with the Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research, a nonprofit organization,  conduct their research and hear about some of the discoveries from more than a decade of studies and monitoring. Some of the hundreds of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins in the area show up so frequently they’ve even been given names, like “Rake,” “Scarlet,” and “Onion.”
