Discover a remarkable collection of historic residences throughout the Outer Banks with this special tour that highlights some of the town’s most eye-catching and historic beach homes. Orchestrated by the Historic Landmarks Commission, visitors can explore an array of unique homes that can be a century or more old during this fall tour that truly captures the history that’s alive and well around every corner of the Outer Banks.
This event entails a self-guided tour that launches from the Kill Devil Hills Town Hall. From this starting point, participants will be given a detailed guide book of all the homes that have earned a spot on the tour, as well as a map of the properties to make it easy to navigate along the coastal roads. There’s a total of 28 homes that are designated as Historic Landmarks, and the ensuing quest will be a wonderful inside-look into some of the most locally famous houses on the beach. Open to the public, the Kill Devil Hills Historic Landmarks Open House will provide a rare opportunity to discover the intricate construction of these time-tested beach homes, and to get a feel of life by the coast on the Outer Banks – both today, and in decades past.
